We recently spent our Christmas season in Jamaica, and have to say, there’s absolutely nowhere better to spend the holidays. No, Jamaica may never have a white Christmas, and there may not be any chimneys for Santa to come down, but what it does have, it has in spades: plenty of sorrel (which goes GREAT with white rum), Jamaican black cake (aka rum cake or fruit cake), the perfect amount of warmth and sunshine (without the baking heat and humidity of summer), and the legendary Jamaican Christmas breeze.
There’s nothing like a Frenchmen Climax New Year’s Day party for the grown-ups (a chance to dress up, live the high life, and not have to choose between looking great and staying warm!), and the kids absolutely love spending the holidays on the beach. For those of us who live in cold and dark climates, where the December/January days are so short, dark and gloomy, a holiday break to Jamaica can be the perfect antidote to the winter doldrums.
If you haven’t spent the holidays in Jamaica, give it a try next year. But book your tickets WELL in advance, because those of us who know, always go!
